Compassion Uganda marked 30 years of ministry in Uganda with a celebration event in Kampala on 25 March 2026, honouring three decades of working through local churches to release children from poverty in Jesus' name — an anniversary attended by over 500 church partners, staff, alumni, and government officials.

Since registering in Uganda in 1996, Compassion has partnered with over 600 Ugandan churches to operate Child Development Centres, through which more than 120,000 Ugandan children have been supported through the organisation's holistic child development programme. The programme addresses children's spiritual, economic, physical, and socio-emotional needs from birth through to young adulthood.

"Three decades ago, our pioneers believed that the local church was God's agent of transformation in Uganda, and that investing in children was investing in Uganda's future," said Compassion Uganda Country Director Alice Nakimwero. "Thirty years later, we have 120,000 reasons to believe they were right."

Among the alumni who spoke at the celebration was Dr. Robert Kayanja Jnr, a physician who was sponsored as a child through a Compassion Centre in Kampala's Bwaise neighbourhood. "The sponsors who invested in me did not just pay my school fees. They showed me that I was loved, that I was seen, and that my life mattered to God and to someone on the other side of the world. That knowledge changed everything."
